仁心铁骨

——韦以宗

韦以宗，男，1946年10月出生，广西平南县藉，现任北京光明骨伤医院院长、主任医师，兼广西中医学院骨伤科研究所、长春中医学院国际学院客座教授、硕士生、博士生导师，世界中医骨科联合会秘书长，中华中医药学会骨伤科分会、亚健康分会副会长等职。

一、

韦的著作有9本共730万余字，发行量达14万多册。其中《中国骨科技术史》（1983年）填补了骨科领域的空白。已收编为大专院校教材，日本译成日文作为教科书。并先后点校、校释出版了《理伤续断方》《外科集验方》《秘传外科方》（1990年）《跌损妙方》《救伤秘旨》（1886年），《回回药方·折伤门》《永类钤方·风损伤折》《秘传伤科方书》（1995年）。1988年任总编，我国第一套骨伤科教材《中国骨伤科学》10卷本出版，2001年，主编的《中国骨伤科学辞典》出版， 2003年任总主编《现代中医骨科学》出版。

韦在国家级学术期刊发表学术论文60篇，其中中药治疗开放性骨折荣获地厅级科技成果一等奖，与顾云伍一起获1978年全国科学奖；前臂骨折、肱骨髁骨折、胸腰椎骨折的研究论文发表后，被《中国接骨学》引用，并编进了《中西医结合骨伤科科学》教材。对中国整脊医学历史文献、传统整脊手法机理及适应症研究和脊柱机能解剖学、生物力学研究，创造性地提出圆筒枢纽学说和脊柱平行四边形理论和椎体板块移动椎曲论，并取得非手术治疗严重的椎间盘突出症、椎管狭窄症、脊椎滑脱症的成功。美国报刊转载有关论文并以英文版在期刊刊载。国家中医药管理局、中华中医药学会于2003年起，将韦以宗所研究成果列为国家级中医药继续教育项目，举办全国整脊学高级研修班，已培训主治医师以上学员200多人（外国学员12名）。

    韦先后荣获全国优秀科技图书二等奖，广西自治区科技成果二等奖，全国重大中医药科技成果（部级）乙级奖，1984年获广西自治区重奖四名突出贡献知识分子之一。1988年评为全国省市区优秀科技图书一等奖。1998年获湖北省科技成果二等奖。获2003年度中华中医药学会科技学术著作奖。1999年荣获吴阶平副委员长颁发“廿世纪接骨学最高成就奖”全国获奖九名专家之一。

自1970年进修中医骨科后，在县人民医院开设了30张病床的骨科，是当时全国少有的县级医院骨科。1978年调广西自治区医院外科工作，1985年成立骨伤科研究室任主任，1986年在韦的建议下，广西成立广西自治区中医骨伤科研究所，韦任法人第一副所长。由于骨伤科后继乏人，韦于1985年团结全国专家，成立光明中医函授大学骨伤科学院，在28个省市自治区设34个分院98所辅导站，经四年努力培训6千多名骨伤科医生，缓解了社会的急需。同时，创办了我国第一份《中国中医骨伤科杂志》，办成全国科技核心期刊，担任主编8年。1986年韦与施杞等专家促成中华中医学会骨伤科专业委员会的成立。

1993年韦出国办学，为东南亚各国培训195名骨伤科医师，获马来西亚卫生部长表扬。1997年9月，韦联合18个国家地区骨伤科界，在吉隆坡成立“世界中医骨伤科联合会”，后于北京、澳大利亚悉尼、香港和德国美因兹召开第二、三、四、五届世界大会，出席代表达3000多人次，联合会会员发展到1200多人，涵24个国家地区，同时，创办了《世界中医骨伤科杂志》美国中英文版（1999）任总编，各届大会论文集和杂志发表论文548篇，促进了中医骨科在世界的普及提高。2003年，中国唯一以报导世界杰出华人新闻人物的《中华英才》以“白衣风骨气自华——为了维护民族脊梁骨气，他呕心沥血编著中国骨科技术史，并牵头推动中医骨科走上世界；为了维护人类脊梁骨气，他潜心研究发明一说二论，令澳洲整脊专家惊赞中国整脊了不起”为题，报导韦以宗“传中医理念，扬中华骨气”“淡泊名利，博爱做人”的事迹。

中央电视台于6月30日、7月1日“东方之子”以“韦以宗仁心铁骨”播出，介绍韦以宗发掘整理中医骨科学使之现代化，并促进中医国际交流的业绩。

Benevolent Heart and Strong Character

——Mr. Wei Yizong

Part One

The Chief physician Yizong Wei, was born in his native place of Pingnan county Guangxi province in 1946 and he had engaged in his advanced study of orthopaedics in Guangxi Medical College and Tianjin Hospital for 2 years. At present, he holds the positions of president and chief physician of Beijing Guangming Hospital of Orthopedics, and concurrently holds the positions of visiting professor and tutor of master and doctoral students of Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology of GuangXi TCM University, the international medical college of Changchun Traditional Chinese Medical University, the position of secretary general for The world Chinese Traditional Orthopedics Association, and the position of vice chairperson of Special Interest Committee for Orthopaedics and Traumatology of China Association of Chinese Medicine.

Professor Wei has finished 9 books, totally more than 730 million characters, with its quantity issued up to 140 thousands, in which the “The Technical History of Chinese Orthopaedics” filled in the gaps in orthopaedics field. It has been taken in and edited as textbooks for institutions of higher education, and translated into Japanese used as schoolbooks in Japan. He directed and noted the reading of “Prescriptions for Wound Healing and Bone Setting(理伤续断方)”, “The Collected  Empirical Prescriptions for Surgery(外科集验方)”, ” The Secretly Handed Down Surgical Prescriptions(秘传外科方)”(1990), “Secret Prescriptions for Injuries from Falls (跌损妙方)”,” Secret Points for Rescuing Injuries(救伤秘旨)”(1886), “Hui People’s Prescriptions·Fractures and Injuries Class( 回回药方·折伤门)”.” 永类钤方·风损伤折”,” Secret Handed-down Medical Formulary for Traumatology (秘传伤科方书)”(1995), which have been successively published. In 1988, he assumed the post of chief editor and the first orthopedic textbook of “Chinese Orthopedics And Traumatology” volume 10 was published. In 2001, the “Chinese Dictionary For Orthopedics and Traumatology(中国骨伤科学辞典)” with professor Wei as chief editor was published, and in 2003, with professor Wei as chief editor, the “The Modern Chinese Traditional Orthopedics and Traumatology(现代中医骨科学)” was published.

Professor Wei has 60 research papers published on national level learned periodicals, in which, “Treatment of Open Fracture with Chinese Traditional Medicine” was honored with the first price on scientific and technological achievements of prefectural department level, and in 1978, together with Yunwu Gu, he was award the National Scientific Award;  After publication of the research papers on Forearm Fracture, the Fracture of Humerus Condyle, the Fractures of Thoracic and Lumbar vertebra, they all were quoted by “Chinese Osteosynthesis《中国接骨学》”， and were edited into “Orthopedics and Traumatology with Combination of Chinese medicine and Western medicine《中西医结合骨伤科科学》” as teaching materials. He creatively put forward the Cylinder Pivot Theory, the Parallelogram Theory for Spinal Column, the Vertebral Flexure Principle of Centrum Block Movement through studying the Chinese Chiropractic Medical History References, studying the mechanism theory of traditional techniques for chiropractics and its indications as well as the spinal functional anatomy, biomechanics, and achieved success on the treatments of severe prolapse of intervertebral disc, spinal stenosis, and spondylolysis with non-surgical method. His relevant papers were reprinted by American newspapers and periodicals and were published in English on magazines. In 2003, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of People’s Republic of China and China Association of Chinese Medicine ranked his research findings as the national project for further education on Chinese Traditional Medicine and conducted the nationwide advanced study and training course of Chinese Chiropractics, and now more than 200 students ranked higher than attending doctor have been trained (including 12 foreign students).

Part Two

Professor Wei won the Second Prize for National Excellent Scientific and Technological Books, the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements of Guangxi Autonomous Region, the Second Prize for National Significant Scientific and Technological Achievements in Chinese Traditional Medicine successively. In 1984, he won the honorary title of intellectuals with outstanding contributions of Guangxi Autonomous Region. There are total four persons who won this titles, profession Wei is one of them. In 1988, he won the First Prize for National Provincial, City and Regional Level Excellent Scientific and Technological Books; in 1998, won the Second Prize for Scientific and Technological Achievements of Hubei province, and won the 2003 Annual Award for Scientific and Technologic Academic Works of China Association of Chinese Medicine; in 1999, won the “Highest Achievement Award for Osteosynthesis in Twenty Century” issued by vice-chairman Jieping Wu. There are total nine specialists being awarded this prize, and professor Wei is one of them.

Part Three

Professor Wei established the department of orthopedics with 30 beds in county-level People’s Hospital since beginning to attend in an advanced study of Chinese Traditional Orthopedics and Traumatology in 1970. It is really of rare occurrence at the time throughout the whole country. In 1978, he was transferred to work at general surgery of Guangxi Autonomous Region hospital; in 1985, he established the orthopedic research office and served as director of it. In 1986, the Chinese Traditional Orthopedic and Traumatological Research Institute of Guangxi Autonomous Region was brought into being in Guangxi Autonomous Region under the suggestion of professor Wei, and professor Wei was legal person and served as the first vice institute chief. Due to the lacking of successors in orthopedics and traumatology, professor Wei, by utilizing the specialists in the whole country, established the orthopedic and traumatology college of Guangming Chinese Traditional Medicine Correspondence University, and set up 34 branch colleges in 28 provinces, cities, and autonomous regions with 98 tutorial stations, training more than 6 thousands orthopedic doctors through four years of effort, and the urgent requirement for orthopedic doctors at the time was eased. At the same time, he started the first publication of “Chinese Journal of Traditional Medical Traumatology & Orthopedics”. With professor Wei serving as chief editor for 8 years, this journal was developed into the scientific core magazine of the whole country. In 1986, professor Wei and Qi Shi etc. contributed to the establishment of Special Interest Committee for Orthopaedics and Traumatology of China Association of Chinese Medicine.

In 1993, professor Wei went abroad to run schools, and trained 195 orthopedic and traumatological doctors for different countries in Southeast Asia and was praised by the minister of Malaysia Public Health. In September 1997, he established “The world Chinese Traditional Orthopedics and Traumatology Association” in Kuala Lumpur through uniting the departments of orthopedics and traumatology of 18 different countries and regions. Then he organized the second, third, fourth and fifth World Symposium in Beijing, Sydney of Australia, Hongkong and Mainz of Germany, with the attending representatives up to 3,000 persons. The members of this association were extended to more than 1200 persons, covering 24 countries and regions. At the same time, the American English version (1999) of “Chinese Journal of Traditional Medical Traumatology & Orthopedics” was started, with professor Wei as chief editor. The collected papers from each symposium, plus the papers that have been published, are totally 458 full articles, which contributed to the popularization and improvement of Chinese Traditional Medical Orthopedics in world. In 2003, “The China’s Talents”, a only journal in China that reports the world outstanding Chinese in news, reported professor Wei’s story of “Spreading the Chinese Traditional Medical Ideas, Carrying forward the moral integrity of our China”, ”Being indifferent to fame and wealth, Conducting Oneself with Universal Love”, with “In White With Strength of Character, its Appearance Spontaneously Being Splendid---In order to vindicate the backbone of our nation, he made every effort to write “The Chinese Orthopedic Technology”, and lead to propel the Traditional Chinese Orthopedics to go to world; in order to vindicate the backbone of our nation, he studied with great concentration and invented one theory and two principles, making the European Chiropractic specialists surprisingly praise that the Chinese chiropractics is extraordinary” as title. 

On Jun 30th and Jul first, China Central Television broadcasted “Yizong Wei with his benevolent heart and strong character” in “Dongfangzhizi” program, introduced his achievements of exploring and sorting out Chinese Traditional Orthopedics and making it into modernized and facilitating the international intercommunion of Chinese Traditional Medicine.
